As a writer there are times when you feel down, when you think you have run out of ideas and when you think things have become really tough since no one seems to be interested in your writing. At times like this, what you could do with is some encouragement, some words of wisdom ( even if seemingly simple) , and the assurance that this is not happening only to you but to countless others in the world. It might change your perspective too when you realize that there are many facing far tougher situations than you are, or ever will. For those of you who can relate to this situation, I would commend to you a book I read recently. It’s part of the enormously successful ” Chicken Soup for the Soul” series and is called,”Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Writers.”
I read this interesting book and wrote a review of it in my writing blog, ” Writing To Be Read.” You might like to have a look.
Whilst on the subject of motivation for writing, here are a few thoughts that come top of the mind to me, just now:
- Writing is very hard work and you need to drive yourself. Decide on your goals and more than anything else remain interested in what you are writing. If your work doesn’t interest you, it is most unlikely to interest anyone else.
- Books, like the one I mentioned, can do a lot for you. they can give you new ideas, fresh perspectives, and tell you what others have found useful. At the end of the day, you need to figure out what works best for you, in something as highly individualistic as writing.
Go ahead then, do read my review of the book and cull from it what appeals to you.
