Time to introduce to you the main characters of “It Can’t Be You”. The story centers around one family, the Belliappas of Roseneath Estate in Coorg, which is located in Karnataka in the South of India. The climax of the story is in the year 2000. Lt.Col. K.S.Belliappa, Indian Army (Retd.) is 54 and now a prominent arms dealer.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, he was commissioned in the 4/5 Gorkha Rifles. He served in the Indian Army for over 25 years. The high point of his career was winning the prestigious Maha Vir Chakra as a young Lieutenant in the Indo-Pak War of 1971. Later he was selected to lead an irregular team of specialist snipers to combat insurgents and militants in Kashmir from 1989.
Col. Belliappa first married the beautiful Dinaz Dastur in 1969. Their daughter is called Shefali and their son, Pritam. Dinaz died in 1980 and more than 17 years later, Col. Belliappa married again. His second wife- Elena Dietrich, aged 30, worked in an armaments firm in Berlin with whom he did business.
