Reader’s comment on “Lucky For Some, 13”

It’s comments like these from readers that make your day as an author. Here is what Subhash Nayak wrote on the FB Page for “Prem Rao, Storyteller.”:-
Thoroughly enjoyed “Lucky For Some, 13″ from start to finish! The vivid descriptions of each of the characters; the buildup of how certain events and people in one’s life could convert an ordinary person into a terrorist; the plot set up in Bangalore with the familiar streets and landmarks; the brutality with which the hostage situation plays out; and the nail biting operation to flush out the terrorists – all make for a very interesting thriller that quite literally is unputdownable! The epilogue is the icing on the cake as the author subtly observes that some things could, but would, never change. Look forward to the next novel :-)”

“Lucky For Some, 13” can be ordered from Amegabooks, HomeShop 18 or Flipkart amongst many on-line portals.

Makings of a Story

What goes on in an author’s mind when he/she writes a story? How does the plot come to be? What are the threads that run through the author’s mind as the story takes shape? My second thriller, “Lucky For Some, 13” has hit the stands since its launch on December 1, 2012, and I take this opportunity to re-live some of those moments which form the makings of a story:- Continue reading “Makings of a Story”

Editing Your Manuscript

I have been an avid fan of the National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo as it is popularly called since I first took part in this annual writing competition in 2009. After that I have successfully completed NaNo, for short, in 2010, 2011 and more recently in 2012. In essence, this means I have written 50,000 words every November for what we call our NaNoNovel, for the last four years on the trot. Continue reading “Editing Your Manuscript”

Interview in “The Hindu”

A friend called excitedly to say she had seen the article in Coimbatore, as did later a cousin from Chennai. We had of course seen it in the Weekend edition of Metroplus in The Hindu of December 14, 2012. I speak of my interview in The Hindu, one of India’s most reputed newspapers, about my new thriller, “Lucky For Some, 13.” Continue reading “Interview in “The Hindu””

Creating Characters

They may be men, they may be women, they may be young, they may be old, they may be sloppy, they may be bold, but they are all yours. Yes, the characters you create in your books are yours. I thought of an idea and have it up in my FB Page “Prem Rao, Story Teller.” I put up a poll, “Who is your favourite character in ‘Lucky For Some, 13?'” Continue reading “Creating Characters”

Novel Writing Tips

I could feel the tension ease palpably as the book launch function of my second thriller, “Lucky For Some, 13” came to an end recently. It was also the time to summarize a few key learnings which might be of use to budding writers, if not to other writers. “Writing a 87,000 + word novel is pretty easy, its writing the less than 200 word back cover copy that is tough,” I quipped. There’s a lot of truth in what I said. Ask any author.
