December 16 is celebrated as Vijay Diwas or Victory Day in India. It was on December 16, 1971 that the Pakistani forces in the then East Pakistan surrendered to end the 1971 December war between the two countries. Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command accepted the surrender from Gen A A K Niazi. This is a memorable picture.

Have started a discussion on the Facebook Page on psychopaths.What does a psychopath mean to you? Who is a psychopath? Do join in and share your views.The topic stems from the need to correct an impression that all psychopaths are rapists, wanton killers and clearly a menace to society.
The excitement is palpable. There are only 4 days to go for the launch of my debut novel “It Can’t Be You”. This is being published by Cedar Books, an imprint of Pustak Mahal, one of India’s largest publishing houses. The book will be released by an old friend,Subroto Bagchi, Vice-Chairman and Gardener of MindTree Ltd, himself an author of repute.
If you have been through the site or the Facebook Page for “It Can’t Be You”, you would know that it stemmed from my debut effort in the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November 2009. Here is what I wrote in the Acknowledgements for the novel……
The world is not only made up of heroes and heroines. Every novel has its share of minor characters who shore up the story, who lend insight, who add to complexities or who just happen to be around when needed!
When you are not a rich person but aspire to become one, you are driven by sheer ambition. Elena Dietrich was one person who had, more than anything else, a fierce determination to get out of the less affluent society she was born into in Berlin.
The fourth to be introduced in the cast of characters in “It Can’t Be You” is Pritam , younger child and son of Col. Belliappa and his wife, Dinaz. If the Colonel has a military bearing with a clipped mustache and short hair cut, his son favors scuffed up jeans, long hair tied in a careless pony tail and a wild beard.
You would probably like Shefali Belliappa were you to meet her. The elder child and daughter of Col. & Mrs. Belliappa has clearly inherited the drop dead gorgeous looks from her mother, Dinaz.
“Why have you described your novel as a “psychological thriller?” I was asked recently by a friend on seeing this site. As you know, the larger thriller genre itself is vast and has several sub-genres, one of which is the psychological thriller.

This is the second in the series of characters in “It Can’t Be You”. The stunningly beautiful Dinaz Dastur made many heads turn when aged 18 she attended a Ball at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. One of the many who was taken in by her beauty that evening was Gentleman Cadet Belliappa. When he first saw her , he had no idea who she was. But he did know one thing! He had to make her his!! He had fallen head over heels in love.
