Aren’t You On Twitter?

I have been on Twitter for a while now. I took to what was then a relatively new experience in August 2007, which now seems oh so long ago!  I would recommend that if you are an author, you really should be on Twitter too. If, however, you already are on Twitter, then much of what I have to say may already been known to you. If on the other hand, you haven’t yet experienced Twitter, here are a few points that may persuade you to do so:-

Character Lists

Today’s post, I must confess was triggered by this post on Character Lists in Marla Madison’s blog.

Do you remember books which listed the key characters in them? Here, for example, is a Character List from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”

I liked this idea personally. I haven’t used this in any of my books but hope to do so in a work in progress project.  In addition to the points made by Marla in her blog, I believe the following are worth keeping in mind, if you plan to use a List of Characters: Continue reading “Character Lists”

Stories About Writers

When you imagine what it is like to be a writer different images flash to different people. Many believe the writer is one who stays in his den, banging away the whole day at his keyboard, dead to the world outside. Others see the archetypical writer as being a rather arty kind of figure who lives in his own world often divorced from reality. I though today, I would share a few interesting and heart warming stories about people of my tribe, the writers. Continue reading “Stories About Writers”

“Let The Dead Stay Dead”: A Psychological Novel

Today, I plan to share a few thoughts on the making of “Let The Dead Stay Dead” my latest novel, which has been published on Wattpad to reach out to a larger audience. I must confess that I started out with the view that it would be a thriller, much like my first two novels, “It Can’t Be You” and “Lucky For Some, 13.”

Stock Take on Writing Projects

Ok, the A to Z Challenge is over, my third novel, “Let The Dead Stay Dead ” has been released on Wattpad, and NaNoWriMo is still months away. This is a good time to stock take on my on-going writing projects. This exercise which I do from time to time, not only keeps readers informed of my work but more importantly acts as a compass for me to prioritize my time and energies. I would advocate all writers should do the same, with the frequency of such a stock take dependent on their specific requirements.

Are you using Pinterest, Mr. Author?

It’s become a cliché now to say that writing is only a small part of the author’s job. There is so much to do in the realm of marketing, branding and so on, that one sometimes winders if more time is spent on these activities than on the core activity of writing itself.  I can’t recall who led me to starting an author page on Pinterest. I am sorry I have forgotten your name but I can’t forget to thank you for your idea. Continue reading “Are you using Pinterest, Mr. Author?”

Z for Zombie #A to Z Challenge

Yes, we have come to the end of the alphabet in our A to Z Blogging Challenge. There aren’t too many words that start with Z  anyway so I shall write about the first thing that comes to my mind, which is Z for Zombie. As a writer of thrillers I find the idea quite fascinating. In  day-to-day speech, we do use phrases like ” he looked alike a zombie” but what actually does the term mean?

Y for Ypres #A to Z Challenge

When I first started reading about the World Wars, one event that had a great impact on me was the story of Allied troops facing poison gas attacks. For me, therefore, today Y is for Ypres, the scene of many a battle in Belgium during the First World War. There were heavy casualties on both sides. Amongst the thousands who were wounded here was a Corporal in the German Army, a man called Adolf Hitler who was awarded the Iron Cross for rescuing a wounded comrade. Battles were won and lost as the two sides jockeyed for control of the terrain around Ypres. The last shell fell on Ypres in October 1918. It is estimated that in the area around Ypres over 1,700,000 soldiers on both sides were killed or wounded apart from an uncounted number of civilians.
